Nutrition

Personalized Nutrition- without making the scale your altar. Leaving diet culture behind.

I work with women who have been burned by diet culture, but feel stuck in their health journey after trying All Foods Fit, Intuitive Eating, or just saying “screw it!” to all things related to food. We work together to navigate nutrition with a personalized approach without making the scale your altar or measure of worthiness.

The pendulum swing from diet-culture to anti-diet culture makes perfect sense. But those are ideologies- not personalized nutrition.

And what if your body doesn’t feel good in either or those camps? This is where I work- in the beautiful, messy, grey area where your lived experiences matter.

Maybe you’ve been experiencing:

  • funky guts

  • anxiety, feeling on edge

  • relentless fatigue

  • weight changes

  • bad sleep

  • eating past fullness

…but have been hesitant to work with a nutritionist for fear of being told, “just lose weight and all your problems with resolve.” (Which, is typically not helpful advice).

My recommendations are filtered through a weight-neutral lens, which focuses on how your body is functioning, rather than how it looks. And my nutritional and health analysis is the same for every person, regardless of BMI. Weight is a single biomarker not THE ONLY biomarker. And we can talk about weight- or not!- it’s your choice.

I integrate the science of clinical nutrition— the what we eat— with the art of mind-body eating psychology, which explores who we are as eaters. Together, these approaches create a holistic relationship with nutrition that honors the mind, body, and soul at every meal.

Kind Words from Kind Clients:

“The sheer amount of nutrition advice available in the world makes health extremely overwhelming. I’ve always been afraid that I am not doing enough to take care of myself, even going so far as to believe I am lazy.

Stevi completely turned things around for me. She talks about nutrition in a holistic, easily digestible, and actionable manner.

Since meeting with her, I have made major improvements to my diet and most importantly -eating no longer stresses me out.” -Shannon

Our work together

Working with a clinical nutritionist is not about being handed a meal plan, calorie math, or an attempt to control your body and appetite. It’s about become a skillful eater and giving the body what it needs to feel nourished and safe.

Our work is collaborative, explorative, and unfolds at each visit.

Your lived experience isn’t dismissed- it guides the strategy.

Weight-Neutral Care

We don’t focus on shaping-shifting your body (you could literally do this by not eating and then feeling like crap- NOT THE GOAL).

We focus on improving how your body functions and how you feel.

That means:

  • No calorie counting

  • Weight is not the primary marker of progress

  • Food has no moral value or make you a good or bad person

  • Your body is not broken or a problem that needs fixed

Instead, we focus on:

  • Look at symptoms as body communication

  • Building body trust and body awareness

  • Increasing nutrient status

  • Building balanced plates with gentle structure and flexibility

  • Consistent meals and eating rhythm

  • Hunger + satiety awareness

  • Better digestion

  • Mental clarity

  • Steady energy and better sleep

  • Blood sugar balance

  • Hormone stability (insulin, thyroid, cortisol, etc)

  • Mood, stress, nervous system regulation

  • Reducing inflammation

What You Can Expect

  • A judgment-free space

  • Health history and nutritional assessment

  • Tracking symptoms

  • Lab review + interpretation

  • Personalized nutrition + lifestyle recommendations with each visit

  • Supplements as needed

Clarity call

Clarity call

The Clarity Call is a free, no-obligation conversation designed to help us get to know each other. It’s an opportunity for you to share your health goals, current challenges, and ask any questions you may have about working with a clinical nutritionist.

During this 15 minute call, we will:

  • Explore your current health and nutrition concerns

  • Identify your goals and what you’d like to achieve

  • Discuss how my approach and services can support you

  • Determine if we're a good fit to work together

You can also email me with any questions regarding my services at stevi@stevicouchnutrition.com.

Once we have chatted on the phone or via email, then I can get you scheduled!

Change doesn’t happen overnight—but it has to start somewhere. My nutrition counseling Nourishing Starter Package is three sessions to help you build the initial momentum, gain clarity on what your body needs, and for me to get to know you better so that I can provide you tailored recommendations.

Nourishing Starter Package ($425):

  • Initial holistic assessment (90 mins, virtual or in-person)

  • Two follow-up sessions (50 mins, virtual or in-person)

  • Personalized nutrition and lifestyle plan

  • Resources, handouts, + cheat sheets

Returning clients will be able to schedule individual 50 minute follow-up appointments for $85 after completing the starter package for ongoing support. Most of my clients work with me for 6-12 months. Using nutrition and lifestyle techniques that promote healing is not for folks who are looking for a quick fix-. Sustainable results take time, which is perfectly human.

If you’d like me to speak at your next event, email me at stevi@stevicouchnutrition.com. In the past, I have given talks on blood sugar regulation, cooking for liver health, mindful eating, and how nutrition can support anxiety.

FAQs

What's included in the initial holistic assessment?

Your initial holistic assessment includes a thorough review of your medical history, current eating patterns, lifestyle habits, supplement use, lab analysisand overall health goals. After I get to know you and understand the full picture of your health, we’ll work together to create a realistic, personalized nutrition plan that’s tailored to your needs and priorities. Each appointment builds on the previous appointment, so you will not be given a protocol or a therapuetic diet plan and be sent on your way.

What is included in a follow up?

Follow ups are opportunities for further education on nutrition topics I see fit for your situation, to assess progress, address questions or concerns you have, and to tailor goals and treatment as needed.

Do you create meal plans?

I do not offer meal plans that this time. I find that becoming a skillfull eater and developing health-supportive lifestyle habits is the most beneficial for my clients in the long run. When appropriate, I do offer Therapuetic Diet plans that have been shown to be supportive for certain conditions.

Do I pay monthly or is it a one time fee?

The Nourishing Starter Package is paid in full on the day of your first appointment. Ongoing follow-up appointments are also paid in the full on the day of the appointment.

Do you accept insurance?

Not at this time. However, I do accept HSA/FSA. I could also provide you a superbill that you could give to your insurance company.

How is care set up?

There is an option for HIPPA compliant video chat or in-person visits for local clients (Spokane, WA). In-person visits are held at any Spokane Public Library in their conference rooms.

Note that I am not able to work with clients who live in the following states: Alabama, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Tennessee. *As well as Puerto Rico and Guam.

What does a Certified Nutrition Specialist actually do?

A Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) is an advanced nutrition professional who uses extensive education, clinical training, and a root-cause, holistic approach to create highly personalized nutrition plans that help reduce symptoms, support a wide range of health conditions, and complement the management of diagnosed diseases.

CNSs are qualified health professionals who practice medical nutrition therapy (in states where permitted) and conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments for every client. This includes evaluating macronutrient balance (carbohydrates, fats, protein, hydration), micronutrient status (vitamins and minerals), and system-wide imbalances in areas such as digestion, hormones, cardiovascular function, immunity, and the nervous system. These assessments help identify factors that may contribute to symptoms or increase the risk of chronic health concerns.

They are trained in both disease prevention and nutrition-based support for diagnosed conditions, using a whole-person approach that considers your medical history, lab results, lifestyle factors, stress levels, sleep quality, environmental exposures, food allergies or intolerances, and more.

What is the difference between a CNS and an RD? (I get asked this, A LOT).

Long answer short, they are essentially they are the same. The main difference is that CNSs are not trained in food service management and acute hospital care (like feeding tubes). They are both advanced nutrition professionals that require a Masters of Science, 1000+ hour internship, and pass a board exam. From my perspective, CNSs are exposed to more training in biochemistry, micronutrients, supplements, and lab analysis.

With that being said, the term “nutritionist” is not regulated in the United States. Meaning, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. That means that a physical trainer or wellness influencer can google nutrition facts and call themelves a nutritionist.

My colleague, Caitlin Self, CNS, LDN describes it perfectly on her blog Frugal Nutrition. Use the link below.

What does a Mind Body Nutrition and Eating Psychology Coach do?

A Mind-Body Nutrition and Eating Psychology Coach invites you to reflect on your relationship with food and body by looking at both the nutritional and emotional sides of eating. They invite you to explore why you eat the way you do — including stress, habits, cravings, and beliefs shaped by diet culture. They use mindful-eating tools, nervous-system regulation techniques, and body-awareness practices to help you reconnect with hunger, fullness, and satisfaction cues. Coaches also help you understand emotional eating, reduce guilt around food, and develop a more compassionate, empowered approach to nourishment. The goal is lasting, sustainable change by transforming not just what you eat, but how you eat.
